Like many kids (and adults) my sons are all obsessed with Minecraft. They play it on various platforms, read Minecraft books, design their own worlds and now Realms and like to play with the Minecraft Lego Figures.

For Christmas last year, I decided to build them a small Minecraft world out of Lego. Unfortunately I soon realized that it would cost thousands of dollars to build it entirely of Lego blocks, so I settled on a hybrid plywood build covered in Lego plates and bricks.

This year I added a Minecraft Desert world and Temple to the play area. It has been worth all the work, as it gets played with most every day (for the last 14 months and counting).

Initially I have a few of the pictures from when I finished construction, then as we added some of the official Lego Sets and custom buildings, it grew and changed.

I intend to post some ‘behind the scenes’ photos and drawings, in case anyone is interested in making something similar.
