1. Nancy Lamb’s book on writing children’s books (though it is quite broad and applicable to most creative writing).

2. Check out a segment of your writing with a Readability Index. This calculator will give you a basic idea if your writing is actually geared toward the age group/reading level that you are hoping to target.
